More than 7,000 still without power in Washington and Greene

About 6,400 West Penn Power company customers in Washington County and another 800 in Greene County remain without power today, after a strong storm with high winds Wednesday night brought down tree limbs on power lines. West Penn Power spokeswoman Diane Holder said crews are working to restore power, with the help of workers from other FirstEnergy companies. She said the majority of customers should have power restored by 6 p.m. today but crews will work into Friday, and some residents may not have power until midnight Friday. At the height of Wednesday night?s storm, more than 20,000 customers were without power in the two counties.

Among the areas with the largest outages are North Strabane, Somerset, Canton, Amwell and Nottingham townships. In Greene County, workers are hoping to restore power to about 660 customers in one large outage area soon.
