Memory Making and Keeping: 10 Things For 2012 | Craft Ideas ...

crafts memory keeping 2012

Can you believe Summer is almost over? This year has just flown by!

Before the kids get back in the swing of school schedules and activities, here are 10 always-mean-to-do things you should get started now!

?

1. Start a family together night
Life gets busy and budgets can be tight, but you know what your kids will remember? How much fun they had when the family spent quality time together. Pick a night and time every week and make it family game night and family movie night. Snacks and music (even just microwave popcorn if it is ?a movie night) make it feel like a?party.

2. Have a Family Dance Party
Ever since my kids were small, we have always had impromptu?dance parties.? Just crank up the tunes, grab the kids by the hand, and dance like a fool ? the kids love it and it is a good reminder to enjoy all the wonderful silliness of raising kids.

3. Make Halloween costumes
Ok. Maybe you aren?t feeling ambitious enough to make a whole costume, but how a out making a hat or accessory like a trick or treat bag? Start now and you will be ahead of the game.

4. Take pictures of your home
Might seem silly and boring now (?why do I need a picture, I live here!?) but trust me?in 10 years, you will love seeing the cabinets before you remodeled, the label on the ketchup, the dog bed, and all the little details you never notice. These are not Better Homes and Gardens shots?I?m talking a snapshot of life as it is today. Don?t even worry that it is messy. Sometimes that is life and you will want to remember what it feels like to be exactly where you are today, exactly as it is.

5. Start making ?a Christmas or Holiday Gift Right Now
Have you always wanted to give your Mom a hand embroidered quilt or some other really special handmade gift for the Holidays? People who give that kind of stuff start those projects right about now, just as the Summer is ending. If that is something you aspire to do, put it on your calendar to start in August.

6. Make a vision board
Is there something you are dreaming of doing, something you want, or a goal you would love to accomplish? I?ve talked about the power of positive thinking and vision boards in the past, and now with technology it is even easier. A friend recently sent me this cool iPad app tht lets you create a vision board from all your favorite pins digitally. Or you can do it the old scrappy way?a great way to use your magazines!

7. Take a family picture
Whether it is a professionally taken photo or just Mom or Dad running to the tripod to set the camera, Get the family cleaned up, go outside some afternoon and get a family portrait.

8. Print your pictures
Summer camp and sports pictures, fun sleepovers, camping and beach trip pics: You captured them all! But too many of us (me included) forget to print our special memories so we can enjoy them. Pick 20 or 3o pictures from the first part of this year and upload them to a digital service like Snapfish or even Walmart photo and get them printed and mailed to you. You can also get photo paper at the store and DIY print them if you have a good printer at home. Don?t feel like you need to even do a project or scrapbook with them just now. Put them in a pretty box and label the back with the year/date so they are ready when you have an inspired idea to display them.

9. Organize your art and craft supplies
I like to do a big craft space clean up about once a year. If you need to get some bins to keep your items in categories, do it now. You will be shocked at how much more creative you feel when your energy isn?t spent clearing off a surface to craft on or searching for your bubblegum pink flocking.

10. Take a first step
A lot of you who I have spoken to dream of having a full time creative business. You know what sets people who craft businesses apart from people who don?t? Just one step. A dream is not often something that comes true overnight, but if you ovethink it and don?t act on your desires, it won?t happen. Start your blog (Try WordPress or Blogger ? it is free)or sign up with a friend to do a Fall craft fair. If you have an idea or a dream, don?t think you have to have all of the answers worked out. Just take the first step towards your goal. Then the next step will seem even easier.

Baltimore Bankruptcy Attorney, Daniel M. Radebaugh, Helps Locals ...

(1888PressRelease) Dan Radebaugh, Esq., the managing member of Law Office of Daniel M. Radebaugh LLC, possesses expertise in various areas, including real estate, bankruptcy, corporate and civil litigation.

Baltimore, MD ? Dan Radebaugh, Esq., who has almost a decade of experience as a lawyer in the Baltimore area, is focused on ensuring that his clients understand their rights when it comes to any and all legal actions, including bankruptcy, civil litigation and notices regarding intent for foreclosure.

?One thing that I?ve found,? says Attorney Radebaugh, ?is that in an area such as bankruptcy that people are often uninformed about their rights and the fact that they have a certain amount of control when filing. Often clients first look at bankruptcy as a punishment, but soon they come to understand that it can be a road to freedom, giving them the chance to rebuild their lives.? Radebaugh notes, ?Bankruptcy is not a liquidation of rights. It can, however, lead to a liquidation of debt.?

Along with being busy in guiding people though the bankruptcy process, which involves determining if Chapter 7 or 13 is the right way to go, Radebaugh helps those who find their properties involved in the process of foreclosure. With about 1.5 million bankruptcies being filed each year and over 200,000 foreclosure notices issued each month, the attorney is very busy informing people of their rights.

?As an example,? Radebaugh says, ?when someone receives a intent for foreclosure notice from their lender that does not mean they will lose their home. They may lose it, but there is still room to negotiate. Additionally, the lender has many must conform to the law and file all paperwork properly. All of this takes time and that time can be used by the homeowner in a positive fashion.? He concludes, ?I see my job as making sure that all rights regarding home ownership are respected and not violated.?

Dan Radebaugh, Esq., serves as the managing member of Law Office of Daniel M. Radebaugh LLC, which is located in Baltimore County, Maryland. His focus includes real estate, bankruptcy, corporate and civil litigation. After graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2003 cum laude, he served as a real estate associate with the global law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP in its Baltimore office and a litigation associate with the law office of Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann LLP. During this time, he drafted contracts and loan documents and negotiated and settled several million dollars of real estate transactions. Scalia steps up criticism of health care ruling

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Sunday renewed his criticism of Chief Justice John Roberts' reasoning in upholding President Barack Obama's 2010 healthcare law and also said the Constitution undoubtedly permits some gun control.

The 76-year-old Scalia - a leading conservative on the court who has served as a justice since 1986 - also was asked whether he would time his retirement in order to let a conservative future president appoint a like-minded jurist.

"I don't know. I haven't decided when to retire," Scalia told the "Fox News Sunday" program. "... My wife doesn't want me hanging around the house - I know that."

"Of course, I would not like to be replaced by someone who immediately sets about undoing everything that I've tried to do for 25 years, 26 years, sure. I mean, I shouldn't have to tell you that. Unless you think I'm a fool."

Roberts, also a conservative, sided with the nine-member court's four liberals in upholding the constitutionality of Obama's healthcare law, considered the Democratic president's signature domestic policy achievement.

Scalia joined in a sharply worded dissent on the day of the June 28 ruling and added to his criticism on Sunday.

A central provision of the law is the "individual mandate" that most Americans obtain health insurance by 2014 or pay a penalty. The ruling found that this penalty "may reasonably be characterized as a tax" and thus would be constitutionally permissible under the power of Congress to impose taxes.

"There is no way to regard this penalty as a tax. ... In order to save the constitutionality, you cannot give the text a meaning it will not bear," Scalia said.

"You don't interpret a penalty to be a pig. It can't be a pig."

Supreme Court justices rarely give media interviews. Scalia is making the rounds to promote "Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts," a new book he co-wrote.

Scalia brushed off Obama's comments aimed at the court regarding the healthcare law and a campaign finance ruling.

"What can he do to me? Or to any of us?" Scalia said. "We have life tenure and we have it precisely so that we will not be influenced by politics, by threats from anybody."

He was asked "why you push people's buttons every once in a while." Scalia said, "It's fun to push the buttons."

GUN CONTROL

Scalia wrote the high court's 2008 ruling that a ban on handguns in the U.S. capital violated the right to bear arms enshrined in the Constitution's Second Amendment.

In light of the July 20 massacre in which a gunman killed 12 moviegoers in Colorado, Scalia was asked whether legislatures could ban the sale of semiautomatic weapons.

He said the 2008 ruling stated that future cases will determine "what limitations upon the right to bear arms are permissible. Some undoubtedly are."

Scalia - a proponent of the idea that the Constitution must be interpreted using the meaning of its text at the time it was written - cited "a tort called affrighting" that existed when the Second Amendment was drafted in the 18th century making it a misdemeanor to carry "a really horrible weapon just to scare people like a head ax."

"So yes, there are some limitations that can be imposed," he said. "I mean, obviously, the amendment does not apply to arms that cannot be hand-carried. It's to 'keep and bear' (arms). So, it doesn't apply to cannons. But I suppose there are handheld rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes that will have to be ... decided."

Regarding the death penalty, Scalia said opponents want it struck under the ban on cruel and unusual punishment included in the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.

"But it's absolutely clear that the American people never voted to proscribe the death penalty," he said. "They adopted a cruel and unusual punishment clause at the time when every state had the death penalty and every state continued to have it. Nobody thought that the Eighth Amendment prohibited it."

Scalia also took issue with decades-old Supreme Court precedent, saying the Constitution does not provide Americans with a right to privacy, despite a landmark 1965 ruling finding that it does. That ruling helped pave the way for the court's 1973 ruling legalizing abortion.

"There is no right to privacy - no generalized right to privacy," Scalia said. "No one ever thought that the American people ever voted to prohibit limitations on abortion. I mean, there is nothing in the Constitution that says that."

Scalia also was asked about his past criticism of rulings by Supreme Court colleagues in which he called them "folly" and "sheer applesauce."

"I don't know that I'm cantankerous," he said. "I express myself vividly."

Internet Marketing Seo | Technology Reviews

Who runs the SEO service? Is it one man and a dog in a shed in Droitwich, or a dedicated team of SEO professionals with years of experience, qualifications, accreditation and perhaps even reputable publications to their name? Look to an SEO service with a history of experience and expertise.

Effective Titles: Effective titles are one of the most important aspects of SEO strategy. Don?t get carried away with long words of titles an effective title should be fewer than 10 words and should describe your work for the visitors when they click on.

seo

SEO (search engine optimization) is one of the today?s most popular Internet marketing technique used in the industry. It mainly uses the capability of search engines to bring traffic to a website. And because search engines are heavily used by users, as a means for searching information across the World Wide Web (WWW), SEO quickly became a very powerful Internet marketing technique.

In many cases it might seem that it is not worth employing an organic SEO company. However, it is extremely important to remember that while other companies provide results for a short term, some of the best SEO companies employing organic techniques provide long-term effects. The results might not be visible immediately; however, these come in handy on the long term.

The new Search Plus Your World (SYPW) search rankings by Google is an example of how search engines and social networking platforms keep introducing innovations with the intention of serving users better and providing a plan to dominate the search engine or social networking scene. Businesses may find it difficult to keep tabs on all this and implement the right website optimization strategies. This is why professional seo san diego services are necessary to increase your bottom line.

When you bring together the concepts of lead generation and lead capturing you touch upon a popular internet marketing concept known as list building. Generating hot leads using ultra targeted SEO, capturing those leads by offering them a freebie or cheap offer to get them to opt-into your mailing list, then marketing to them over and over again can be a business model in and of itself.

Among the most outstanding events that changed the world forever was the introduction of the internet in different fields of life. One of the most affected due to this was the field of business. The process of marketing changed immensely and companies started doing business online. In recent times, many of the companies prefer reaching out to their customers through their own business websites. They display different details of their products and services in their own website. Hence, for this they need to maintain these websites. In this regard, it will be important to seek search engine optimization or SEO companies.

Due of their advantages of SEO services, companies have been integrated as a crucial strategy. Human resource divisions of small and large companies alike are in the search for SEO professional India. On the other hand, SEO is still in its infancy, which clarifies the shortage of qualified SEO. The companies then make use of the second most excellent choice, which is the formation of an SEO at home.

Only the Search Engine could provide promises and guarantees of the rankings that your site will attain. No SEO service can guarantee results. If people make outlandish claims, they?re either full of it or they?re planning to use unethical SEO techniques to get your results. If they do this, they may get you banned from the Search Engines. Equally, Money-Back Guarantees are a sign that you should avoid the SEO service. Avoid.

Then another type is dedicated SEO consultancy. You can not consider cost consideration if you need the quality in promotion tasks. In this type you can avail the services of seo consultants at any time, you can discuss your problems, queries and get a smooth flow of advice. Some consultants charge on hourly basis and some charge partially before the beginning of project and rest on the completion. However the payment terms may vary on the project basis. You can avail all types of services such as defining of keywords, writing of content on keyword basis, defining navigation structure, on page and off page optimization techniques and other internet marketing activities.

The first step in an SEO process is finding the right Keywords. It is likely to depend on the perfect keywords and high-quality content in the website.

Tribal Online Gaming Act of 2012

Internet, Mobile & Sports Betting

Read draft online gaming bill - the Tribal Online Gaming Act of 2012

?

Jul 27,2012 - Committee on Indian Affairs oversight hearing on regulation of tribal gaming: from brick and mortar to the internet
Statement of Chairman Daniel K. Akaka

I call this hearing of the Committee on Indian Affairs to order. Aloha, and welcome to the Committee's oversight hearing on the Regulation of Tribal Gaming: From Brick and Mortar to the Internet.

We are here to discuss the regulation of tribal gaming. Tribal gaming is now a twenty-seven billion dollar industry. In total, tribal gaming makes up approximately forty percent of the commercial gaming industry in the United States. Gaming, like many industries, does not remain stagnant. That is why today, we will discuss the current regulatory structure of Indian gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, as well as examine regulation of online gaming should federal legislation be enacted.

Gaming has been the single most effective form of economic development for Indian Country. Revenues from gaming provide essential services to tribal members, including education, healthcare, and housing. Indian gaming also provides jobs to members of the surrounding communities. In many counties across the nation tribes are the largest employer, with nearly seventy-five percent of those jobs going to non-Indians.

With these types of economic tools, comes great responsibility. Tribes are the first-line regulators for tribal gaming. We in Congress - and especially on this Committee -- also have a responsibility to ensure that tribal views and priorities are part of any legislation that could impact tribal gaming.

That is why I have developed a draft online gaming bill - the Tribal Online Gaming Act of 2012. This bill is intended to further the dialogue with tribes, my colleagues here in the Senate, and other affected stakeholders. I encourage all of you to review the bill and provide any comments.

In any expansion of gaming, we must make sure that the unique circumstances surrounding tribal sovereignty are maintained in any legislation. And, we must also enable tribes to participate fully should any legislation be considered so tribes are on equal footing with their counterparts in the commercial gaming industry.

As always, it is our job on the Committee to make sure tribes achieve parity in any federal legislation and to bring your voice to Congress. So, I urge all of you to review the Tribal Online Gaming Act discussion draft and provide comments so that we can make sure the tribal voice is heard.

We will continue the dialogue on this issue, and I encourage all of you to continue your work with the Committee. As Chairman, it is my goal to ensure that we hear from all who want to contribute to the discussion.

Mahalo - thank you. This hearing is adjourned.

Despite bloody headlines, Americans still flock to Mexico

Last year, a record 22.7 million visitors chose Mexico as a tourist destination, and only 7 percent of American retirees who live there or travel to Mexico have been scared off by violence.

By Lourdes Medrano,?Correspondent / July 25, 2012

Foreign residents gather at the pier on the shore of the Lake Chapala in Ajijic on June 9. For decades, American and Canadian expats have flocked to the shores of Chapala, seeking refuge in the spring-like climate of Mexico's largest natural lake.

Alejandro Acosta/Reuters

Early last year, Joan Ward fell in love with this picturesque town of narrow cobblestone streets, scenic mountain views, and brightly-colored houses on the north shore of Lake Chapala, Mexico?s largest.

' + google_ads[0].line2 + '

A few months later, the retired business consultant traded her Minneapolis home for a place in Ajijic, where a mild climate, easy lifestyle, and attractive real estate prices have drawn thousands of Americans and Canadians to this swath of western Mexico for decades. Ms. Ward joined tens of thousands of Americans choosing to live abroad, some of them to reinvent themselves, others to fulfill a lifetime dream of living in a foreign country.

But living abroad has always entailed tradeoffs, and in Ajijic the typical considerations ? like distance from family members ? have taken on new dimensions. Since Ward bought her home, fellow expatriates have been kidnapped, robbed, and killed, and in May, 18 decapitated bodies were found stuffed in vehicles not far from her new residence.

?It?s particularly shocking violence here because of the way [it is carried] out,? Ward says.?

The impact of violence, some of it drug-fueled, on this retirement community is clear: After the springtime massacre residents stayed indoors and streets emptied out, causing businesses to suffer. But slowly residents here say they are coming out of their slumber, banding together to fight crime and to hold onto the quality of life that drew them south of the border in the first place.

??I love being here,? Ward says, sitting outside an American-owned store that sells art, jewelry, and books. ?I have no fears for myself.?

Tourism high, despite violence

Ward's view is not unique. While Mexico has grabbed headlines for the beheadings and mass graves that have been uncovered across the country, with 50,000 killed in drug-related violence since Mexican President Felipe Calderon took office in late 2006, tourism has not suffered. Last year, a record 22.7 million visitors chose Mexico as a tourist destination, according to Mexico's Ministry of Tourism.?

In fact, only 7 percent of American retirees who live or travel often to Mexico have been scared off by violence, according to the International Community Foundation, while most are neither reducing the frequency nor length of their trips to Mexico. Ward, like other expats in Ajijic and surrounding lakeside communities, often compares Mexico?s violence to crime in the US ? it can feel random, and much of it is out of one's control. Tourism has continued in part because violence has been contained. It has spread from a conflict largely concentrated on the US-Mexico border to several hotspots across the country. Places like Cancun or the capital, Mexico City, have been largely untouched.

That was true of Jalisco state, where Lake Chapala is located, too ? until last year. Most analysts believe that a territorial dispute between the Zetas, Mexico's most notorious drug trafficking organization, and the ?New Generation? gang affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel, considered among Mexico's biggest groups, brought 776 drug-related deaths in Jalisco in 2011. Through June of this year, there were 352 deaths, according to the Mexican daily Reforma, which tallies national drug-related homicides.

The violence has gotten uncomfortably close to the retirement havens around Lake Chapala, which is 35 miles from Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city. In May, two vans with 18 dismembered bodies were found on a road that connects the city to the lakeside region. A note reportedly signed by the Zetas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier in the year, the arrest of one of the suspected leaders of the New Generation led to narcobloqueos, or roadblocks, snarling traffic in Guadalajara.

SKorea's economic growth falls to over 2-year low

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? South Korea's economic growth fell to a two-year low in the second quarter as exports and capital expenditures sagged due to a slowdown in its largest trading partner, China, and debt-crippled Europe.

The Bank of Korea said South Korea's economy expanded 2.4 percent over a year earlier in the three months ending in June, the lowest growth since the third quarter of 2009.

The second quarter economic output was 0.4 percent higher from the previous three months.

The bank said capital expenditures and exports turned to contraction from the previous quarter while growth of domestic consumption weakened.

The central bank cut its key policy rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 3.00 percent earlier this month, its first rate cut in over three years.

Exclusive! Novelicious Chats To... Jane Green (Part One ...

AmandabwBy Amanda Keats

Jane Green says she is 'having a really lovely time' when I talk to her about her new book The Patchwork Marriage and how her UK book tour is going. The bestselling author was over here recently to promote the book, catch up with old friends and generally reacquaint herself with Jane-greenher native England. The author, who now lives in the US with her husband, children and numerous pets ? which include two cats, chickens and now two dogs ? was one of the pioneering authors for the chick-lit genre back in the 1990s with books like Straight Talking and Jemima J.

In her latest offering, Green writes about a woman, Andi, who finally marries her dream man but struggles to cope when one of his two daughters from a previous marriage is nothing but difficult and hostile towards her and tries very hard to break up their marriage.

"I did a lot of reading and anonymous lurking on various step-parenting forums. There was one particular dynamic that I found fascinating and I kept coming across it. It was the woman who marries the man with children and the children don't like her. She thinks, 'I'm a good person, and all these children need is enough love and kindness and they will love me. I will make them love me and we will create, I will create, this happy family.'" - Jane Green on the research for The Patchwork Marriage.

?The new book The Patchwork Marriage is about a woman who marries a man who already has children. You have a bit of a patchwork family yourself ? is that why you wanted to write about this subject?

?JG: Yes. I got a bit stuck after I finished The Love Verb, because I think it was so emotionally draining for me. I had every writer's worst nightmare in that I just ran out of stories and had no idea what to write next. My editor took me out for lunch and said: 'Well, what's going on in your life? What are the themes? What are you interested in? What are you thinking about?'

Of course, I'd just got married for the second time and found myself with a blended family and in a bid to try to understand what that meant and figure it all out ? because it definitely presents unique challenges ? I did a lot of reading and anonymous lurking on various step-parenting forums. There was one particular dynamic that I found fascinating and I kept coming across it. It was the woman who marries the man with children and the children don't like her. She thinks, 'I'm a good person, and all these children need is enough love and kindness and they will love me. I will make them love me and we will create, I will create, this happy family.'

Of course that seemed to be so rarely the case.

That became the foundation for this story.

?

Why did you decide to show both Andi and eldest step-daughter Emily's perspective in the book, instead of just sticking to one of them?

?JG: The beginning of the book is all Andi's point of view but after a while, she just comes across as being completely self-absorbed. As soon as I started writing as Emily ? who I really didn't like ? I understood her and I understood that this wasn't personal. She didn't hate her stepmother ? in some ways she wanted to love her ? but she couldn't because she felt she would be betraying her mother. She was a child in pain and she didn't know how to express that pain. I really empathised with her.

It threw a completely different light on where the book went after I started writing in her voice.

?

So at the beginning, was it just meant to be Andi's perspective?

?JG: Yes! I had no intention of writing as Emily and in fact it was my editor's suggestion and I'm so glad she did. I was very nervous when she suggested it, I didn't think I could do it. As soon as I started, though, it made perfect sense and I just felt like I understood what this girl was about.

They're both flawed. There isn't an obvious heroine here. As I get older, I'm far more interested in writing about people who are flawed because we are all human and we're all doing the best we can. It just isn't realistic to write about people who are leading perfect lives.

??

There were moments when I read the book that I wanted to scream at the characters ? particularly Ethan ? to stop being so stupid. Did you consider that kind of reaction when you were creating the characters?

JG: I don't think I found him quite as frustrating as clearly people do but I think that's why marriages come apart. During my research, I found that so many second marriages come apart and so many people I spoke to put the reason down to step-children and to the husbands not standing up for their wives. I think that frustration that you felt reading it was probably an accurate reflection of how these women felt about their husbands.

?"I could argue till the cows come home that it's a pejorative and the problem is in the definition but people have been arguing that since 1996 and honestly ? you're not going to change how people think of the term, or what people assume the definition of 'literature for chicks' means, so why bother?" - Jane Green on the term 'Chick Lit'.

?

Since Straight Talking in 1997 you are viewed as one of the first chick-lit writers. How do you think this genre has evolved?

JG: I think it's still going strong. People have been waiting for it to disappear since 1996! I don't think it applies to me any more. No one can really call me a 'chick' now.

It's still exactly what it always was ? which is a very real, honest and quite funny reflection of real women's lives. It is a younger woman's domain, always has been. It started off for women in their late-twenties and I think that's where it still is.

Now, I'm in my forties. I'm not writing about romances and there are no designer handbags or high heels or looking for Mr Right ? which is fine! Good luck to those who are writing it. I'm writing about middle-age, teenage children, blended families, parenting your parents and losing Jemima jfriends ? all the things that life throws at you. I just consider myself a writer of Women's Fiction.

I could argue till the cows come home that it's a pejorative and the problem is in the definition but people have been arguing that since 1996 and honestly ? you're not going to change how people think of the term, or what people assume the definition of 'literature for chicks' means, so why bother?

They're wonderful [books] and I feel really proud and honoured to be part of a movement that was so incredibly popular.

??

You talked about Jemima J's future at this year's International Chick Lit Month - a lot of people got very excited! Is there a Jemima sequel in the works?

JG: I'm not quite ready for the sequel yet. I have been thinking a lot about Jemima and what's happened to her. I'm pretty certain she's definitely not with Ben at the moment and I'm not sure what happened with her and Ben but I know she is a single mother. I also know that she's gone back to writing. She didn't do anything for a while. Ben had tremendous success and she was his sort of trophy partner. Jemima, I think, is about to start writing a series of YA books so as Jemima's alter-ego, that is one of my next projects. I am looking to write a series of YA novels as Jemima ? which I'm really excited about. In fact, that was inspired by writing as Emily [in The Patchwork Marriage] because I just so loved writing as this seventeen year old, and as a seventeen year old who doesn't quite fit in ? which also was very much Jemima's story and of course very much my story. I really related to that feeling of not feeling quite good enough.

"Jemima has a sweetness that I'm not sure I've ever quite managed to replicate." - Jane Green on her favourite character, Jemima J.

So do you have ideas in mind already of what these books will be about?

?JG: Just a broad idea ? they will be set in America. Of course that's where I live, that is my frame of reference now. There will be a group of slightly creative misfits and I'm just looking to unpack their worlds.

?

So is Jemima J your favourite character from all your books?

?JG: Oh yes. Jemima has a sweetness that I'm not sure I've ever quite managed to replicate.

?

So, is she the only character where you consider what they're doing now?

?JG: Well, yes. She's just loved! Even if I wanted to forget her, I couldn't. Everywhere I go, people ask me about Jemima. I also think it's the Cinderella story, the transformation. People love that transformative fairytale. I do think it would be lovely to revisit her and find out where her life has gone.

??

Who's your favourite leading man in your books?

JG: I did always love Ben in Jemima J. [Stops to consider]. Well, he's not a leading man but I loved Si in Book Ends. He was the best friend. I loved him. [Goes through back-catalogue considering all the men she's written ? mutters 'no, no' as she recalls each one]. I think my women are much stronger than the men actually. I don't think I've written fantastic men. I think I probably need to put a bit more work into the men. Wow! That's an eye-opener!

?

I wasn't expecting that reaction! Well I suppose that makes sense ? the women are the centre of your books and the men stay in the periphery.

JG: But I'm going to have to change that! Wow. Thank you!

?

You're very welcome! I look forward to seeing who the next man you write will be now...

?

Now in the UFC, Ulysses Gomez is sticking with Justin Bieber music

Ulysses Gomez is headed to the UFC, and he's bringing Justin Bieber with him. The veteran fighter, who has posted a 9-2 record while fighting for Bellator and Tachi Palace Fighting, will make his UFC debut at UFC? on Fox 4 against John Moraga. He is known to use a certain walkout song that isn't always popular among MMA fans, and he intends to keep it.

This is a man with the nickname "Useless," so some walkout song hate will not bother him. Justin Bieber has attended UFC shows in the past, so maybe Bieber will be at this show. He'll be so honored by Gomez's choice of music, he'll have to perform a special, impromptu concert just for fight fans. Who DOESN'T want that to happen?* And it will all be because of Gomez.

*Probably nobody wants that to happen.

Predators match Flyers' offer sheet for Weber

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? The Nashville Predators have matched the staggering offering sheet made by the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Shea Weber.

The Predators made sure on Tuesday they will keep their star defenseman when they decided to pay him $110 million over 14 years. Weber, 26, is the Predators' captain and played on a $7.5 million arbitrator's award last season. He had 19 goals and 49 points along the way.

Nashville already lost free-agent defenseman Ryan Suter to Minnesota this summer, and losing Weber would have been an unexpected blow to a defense-first team that had 104 points last season.

The Flyers were looking for someone to fill the void left by Philadelphia defenseman Chris Pronger's absence.

Weber hoped he would land in Philadelphia. Now, he will likely end his career in Nashville.

"In tendering an offer sheet to Shea Weber, we were trying to add a top defenseman entering the prime of his career," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "With Nashville matching our offer, we wish Shea and the Predators all the best."

On behalf of Predators chairman Tom Cigarran, GM David Poile and CEO Jeff Cogen, the team released a statement that called the Weber signing, "the most important hockey transaction in franchise history."

Weber is a three-time All Star who helped Canada win gold in the 2010 Olympics, and is also is the mainstay of the Predators' defensive-minded approach. He is coming off a season in which he turned in a career-best plus-21 rating. Weber was sixth among NHL defensemen in scoring, as well, last year.

He also had a career-high 22 points on the power play, and led all NHL defensemen with 10 power-play goals.

Weber averaged 29 minutes, 9 seconds of ice time last season, second on the team to his former partner, Suter, who signed a 13-year, $98 million deal with Minnesota on July 4.

The Predators said they wanted to send a message to their fans that they remain committed to fielding a Stanley Cup contender.

"It was absolutely essential that they understand and believe that we are doing everything possible to ice a Stanley Cup competing team each and every season," the Predators said in a release.

It's easily the biggest contract in Nashville history.

The Predators said they had the money to keep Weber and Suter after signing goalie Pekka Rinne to a seven-year, $49 million deal last November. But Poile couldn't keep Suter in town despite team officials thinking they had a good chance to keep their top draft pick in 2003. The Wild not only snagged Suter, but also agreed with forward Zach Parise, Suter's good friend who left New Jersey for a similar deal to Suter's, a month after leading the Devils to the Stanley Cup finals.

Nashville took Weber, the team's fourth pick in the second round in that same 2003 draft, to arbitration a year ago and couldn't take the restricted free agent there again this summer.

The Predators said the decision to match the offer came down to three factors.

? Was Weber the individual that this franchise wanted to lead our team, a team that would compete for the Stanley Cup every year, for the next 14 years?

? Would matching the offer sheet be in the best long-term interest of the team and organization?

? Would a decision not to match the offer sheet send a negative message to current Predators players and other NHL organizations, a message that the Predators would only go so far to protect its best players and be pushed around by teams with "deep pockets?"

"The answer to each of the above questions is clearly "yes,'" the team said.

The Flyers are left to figure out what's next.

It will help you lay out a really firm foundation from the beginning. This article will teach you a few of the basics of Internet Marketing that you should not ignore.

Understand that sometimes an option that didn?t seem so great a few months ago might be applicable today. The idea that you had a year ago that didn?t work well might be really great today. The point is that you shouldn?t ever blow off or ignore even stupid sounding ideas when you are an Internet Marketer. Put some time into trying to reviving them. The progress you make depends on how well you can incorporate this philosophy for your Internet business. This could take some time to truly get this tip to work for you but in the long run you will see that getting your old ideas to turn a profit is really satisfying.

Don?t ignore email list building when you?re starting out. A lot of new Internet marketers have this perception that list building can wait. Ask yourself, though, why would you keep the most important part of your online business for later on? Don?t you think it is best to start building your strongest asset right away? Holding off on building your email list is a major mistake. You are leaving money on the table if you do not build a list. It?s important to understand that your real financial success comes from profits earned through the back end, not the front end. These same tools are used by people in MLM Marketing

Every Internet marketer should know that finding success online is not just about traffic. So many people want to focus their attention on gaining traffic but they still fail to see any sort of measurable result. There?s a simple reason for this?they don?t put any work into their conversion rates. How well your website converts the traffic you?re sending is much more important.

Even the most laser targeted traffic isn?t going to matter if you can?t get it to convert for you. So work on your site?s content, the copy and the offer to improve your conversion rate as time goes by. If, as an Internet Marketer, you put in real effort to learning as much as possible about the basics, you should see a really great return on your efforts. If you want to stay ahead of your competition and make an impact on your target audience then you need to do it right. The kind of efforts that you put into your Internet Marketing business will determine the long term aspects of your business. Your main goal, then, needs to be improving on your basics and really working on them. Only working toward short term goals isn?t enough. So go ahead and take some real action on the things that you?ve learned in this article and you?ll see great results for yourself.

Rick Newman: Why the Joe Paterno Mystique Endures

In a year or two, the controversy over removing the seven-foot statue of Joe Paterno outside Penn State's Beaver Stadium will seem perplexing. How could there even have been a debate about whether to continue to honor a fallen patriarch who turned a blind eye to child rape? Taking down the larger-than-life statue will seem like a no-brainer.

Yet in the immediate aftermath of a probe that faulted the late football coach for essentially doing nothing about rapes he probably knew about, taking down the statue and officially demoting Paterno's legacy has been a surprisingly wrenching decision. Penn State President Rodney Erickson decided to remove the statue within 10 days of the completion of the official investigation, which found that Paterno concealed knowledge of assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's criminal behavior. Yet legends die hard, and Erickson's decision is unpopular with many Paterno supporters and Penn State alums. Some students gathered in a kind of vigil near the statue before its abrupt disappearance. The university could still decide to relocate the statue to someplace else on campus, or nearby.

Why is it so hard to un-honor a man who allowed loyalty to trump morality and abetted the grievous harm of children?

Paterno obviously had throngs of admirers at Penn State, in large part because of some genuine good he did for the school. He donated several million dollars of his own money to help construct the university's Paterno Library (which will continue to bear his name). He funded scholarships. And oh yeah, he helped build one of the nation's most successful college football programs.

But I think there are two other reasons that a lot of people -- including many appalled by Sandusky's behavior and uncomfortable with Paterno's role in it -- will remain captivated by the Paterno mystique.

First, we need heroes, and when we choose to deify ordinary living people, we tend to ascribe more beatific qualities to them than they actually possess. The heroic fatal flaw is a recurring theme in art and literature going back centuries, of course, yet it remains human nature to reduce real-life role models to two-dimensional confections uncorrupted by normal human frailties.

That seems to be what happened to Paterno. Fans and supporters built him into a godlike superhuman, as if he couldn't have done something as venal as subordinate the welfare of kids to his beloved football program. Paterno may even have developed a hero complex himself, imagining that regular laws or common sense didn't apply to him. Yet absolute power, as Paterno seemed to wield at Penn State, rarely produces the kind of enlightened, selfless leaders we like to pretend people like Paterno are.

The hero mantle is often unsettling to those who wear it. President Barack Obama is suffering now from a failure to deliver the messianic results many supporters expected when they voted for him in 2008. Former Lehman Brothers CEO Richard Fuld considered himself to be virtually invincible, which made him blind to the gargantuan vulnerabilities at his own firm. Bernie Madoff got away with fraud for so long -- while wowing clients with his amazing "performance" -- that he must have thought he would never get caught. But real-life heroes almost always end up being far more flawed than we want them to be.

Second, once we have convinced ourselves of the righteousness of a hero or cause, it can be damn hard to unlearn that devotion. Paterno coached at Penn State for 61 years, and for nearly all of that time he cultivated a countercultural image of athletic probity. For many of his devotees, it will take a while to get used to the idea that they believed in something that wasn't nearly as wholesome as they thought. Others will never make the adjustment, because it's a lot easier to go on believing what you always believed than to acknowledge the holes in your belief system, and adjust.

This is one reason we have such tense and fractured political discourse. People of all persuasions tend to seek out information that validates their views, while disregarding information that conflicts with their views. Psychologists call it confirmation bias. People who are receptive to information that challenges what they believe tend to be the best learners and the most adaptable leaders, as I described in my book Rebounders: How Winners Pivot From Setback To Success. But this is an uncommon trait, and while it can be learned, it requires an unusual degree of self-awareness and equanimity.

The transgressions at Penn State are shocking and profound, which is why a lot of onlookers have already changed their thinking about Joe Paterno, his legacy, and the culture of obeisance that formed around him. More people will come around to the idea of Paterno's culpability as time passes. But Paterno will remain a deity to some, even if they have to airbrush his story to fit their requirements. We need heroes like we once imagined Joe Paterno to be.
